Install skills in Cursor
Cursor looks for skills in .agents/skills/, .cursor/skills/, .claude/skills/ and .codex/skills/ in a project, and in ~/.agents/skills/, ~/.cursor/skills/, ~/.claude/skills/ and ~/.codex/skills/ for all your projects.
Where Cursor looks for skills
This project
.agents/skills/.cursor/skills/.claude/skills/.codex/skills/
All projects
~/.agents/skills/~/.cursor/skills/~/.claude/skills/~/.codex/skills/
Source: cursor.com (opens in a new tab), checked 26 Oct 2026.
Install a skill
- Copy the skill's folder, with its SKILL.md at the top, into
.agents/skills/in your project, or into~/.agents/skills/for all your projects. - Keep the folder named exactly as the name field in its SKILL.md, as the Agent Skills spec asks.
- Or use the Cursor tab on any skill's page here: its commands copy that skill at the commit we checked.
What it honours
Frontmatter fields Cursor reads beyond the six in the Agent Skills spec.

Watch out for
- Cursor also loads the Claude Code and Codex skill folders, so a skill installed for either already appears in Cursor.
- The name field must match the folder name.
- Only ~/.cursor/skills syncs to Cloud Agents; ~/.agents/skills stays on your machine.
- To add skills from GitHub inside Cursor, the repo has to be a plugin with .cursor-plugin/marketplace.json.
