Install skills in Factory Droid

Factory Droid looks for skills in .factory/skills/, .agents/skills/ and .agent/skills/ in a project, and in ~/.factory/skills/, ~/.agents/skills/ and ~/.agent/skills/ for all your projects.

Where Factory Droid looks for skills

This project

  • .factory/skills/
  • .agents/skills/
  • .agent/skills/

All projects

  • ~/.factory/skills/
  • ~/.agents/skills/
  • ~/.agent/skills/

Source: docs.factory.com (opens in a new tab), checked 26 Oct 2026.

Install a skill

  1. Copy the skill's folder, with its SKILL.md at the top, into .factory/skills/ in your project, or into ~/.factory/skills/ for all your projects.
  2. Keep the folder named exactly as the name field in its SKILL.md, as the Agent Skills spec asks.
  3. Or use the Any agent tab on any skill's page here: its commands copy that skill into .agents/skills, which Factory Droid also reads, at the commit we checked.

What it honours

Frontmatter fields Factory Droid reads beyond the six in the Agent Skills spec.

  • enabled
  • user-invocable
  • disable-model-invocation
  • version

Watch out for

  • In Droid, allowed-tools is information only: it neither grants nor restricts tools.
  • Droid also loads .factory/skills folders inside a project’s subfolders.
