Install skills in Junie

Junie looks for skills in .junie/skills/ and .agents/skills/ in a project, and in ~/.junie/skills/ and ~/.agents/skills/ for all your projects.

Where Junie looks for skills

This project

  • .junie/skills/
  • .agents/skills/

All projects

  • ~/.junie/skills/
  • ~/.agents/skills/

Source: junie.jetbrains.com (opens in a new tab), checked 26 Oct 2026.

Install a skill

  1. Copy the skill's folder, with its SKILL.md at the top, into .junie/skills/ in your project, or into ~/.junie/skills/ for all your projects.
  2. Keep the folder named exactly as the name field in its SKILL.md, as the Agent Skills spec asks.
  3. Or use the Any agent tab on any skill's page here: its commands copy that skill into .agents/skills, which Junie also reads, at the commit we checked.

Watch out for

  • Junie CLI reads a project’s .agents/skills only in a project you have granted trust to.
  • A project skill wins over a user skill with the same name.
  • Without a description Junie uses the first paragraph of the body; if the body is empty too, the skill fails to load.
