trader-analyst is a skill in Jakeschincariol/trader-skill, last changed 14 Oct 2026. It can run shell commands, reach the network, name web addresses and bundle scripts — read the findings before installing.

From the author
The Earnings Analyst. Reads a company's reported numbers straight from SEC EDGAR (XBRL company facts from its 10-Qs and 10-Ks, plus the latest earnings 8-K and its press release) and sums up what changed: revenue, gross, operating and net margins, net income and diluted EPS, quarter by quarter, each against the same quarter a year earlier, with the trailing twelve months. Writes a metrics file the screener reads. Use when the user says "how did Apple's earnings look", "analyze the earnings", "what changed this quarter", "is revenue growing", "check the 10-Q", "compare margins", or "run the analyst on my holdings".

What it can touch

From the files and frontmatter at commit 5189e79. This is how much a skill can do, not whether it is risky.

  • Runs shell commands

Its instructions or files give the agent commands to run on your computer.

  • Reaches the network

It sends or fetches data over the internet, for example with curl, an HTTP library or a package install.

  • Names web addresses

It mentions outside web addresses the agent may visit. We list them but don't follow them.

Outside links we did not follow
  • Bundles scripts

The folder holds code files the agent may run.

Pattern check

We checked every text file in this skill, at commit 5189e79 on 3 Nov 2026, against 45 published patterns such as download-and-run commands, hidden text and credential access. We don't run the skill, we don't read the web pages it points to, and we can't judge everything its instructions might lead an agent to do. In published tests, pattern checks like this one missed most malicious skills. Read the skill before you install it — especially anything it asks you to download or run.

Format check

Each agent reads SKILL.md a little differently. We check the file against each one's published rules; we don't run the skill in any agent.

  • Agent Skills specPasses with warnings

The open format from agentskills.io, held to the strictest version of each rule among the agents we check.

    • Warning

Fields outside the spec: argument-hint (read by Claude Code and VS Code). Uploads to the Claude apps and API, and the spec's validator, reject the file; most agents ignore these fields. O1

Fix: Delete them for a portable skill, or keep them if you only target the agents that read them.

    • Note

There is no license field, so readers can't tell whether they may reuse the skill. O2

Fix: Add license: with an SPDX name such as MIT or Apache-2.0, or the name of a bundled licence file.

  • Claude CodePasses
  • Claude apps & API uploadFails

Uploading to claude.ai or the Claude API, or packaging with Anthropic's script, accepts only the six spec fields and stops on anything else.

    • Error

Upload and packaging fail on fields outside the spec: argument-hint. O1

Fix: Delete them, and keep your own data under metadata as text values.

    • Note

The description is 621 characters. The claude.ai Help Center says 200 at most, though Anthropic's API docs and validator allow 1,024. D4

Fix: If the claude.ai upload refuses it, trim the description to 200 characters.

  • OpenAI (Codex & API)Passes with warnings

Codex finds SKILL.md by its exact name and needs a description; OpenAI's Skills API checks the frontmatter against the spec and caps uploads.

    • Warning

Fields outside the spec: argument-hint. Codex ignores them; OpenAI doesn't say whether its upload accepts them. O1

Fix: Delete them, or move your own data under metadata as text values.

  • VS Code & CopilotPasses

trader-brokerOrder Executor. Places APPROVED orders through your brokerage connector, one at a time, and never without your explicit yes. Shows each order as a plain ticket plus the exact JSON for Alpaca's place_stock_order, records your yes word for word, then Claude's own Allow once / Deny card asks again. Covers setting up Alpaca's official MCP server in Claude Desktop (paper trading by default, keys in env vars, never in chat), the Interactive Brokers connector (orders go to your IBKR account for your approval), and setting order tools to "Needs approval". Use when the user says "place the orders", "buy it", "execute", "send it to my broker", "connect Alpaca", "connect Interactive Brokers", "set up paper trading", or after /trader-risk passes.
